Acerola

Plant that grows spontaneously in Central and South America, especially in Brazil and Puerto Rico. The fruit of this plant, commonly known as the West Indian cherry or Barbados cherry, has a diameter of 1-2 cm and, although it closely resembles the European cherry, it has segments inside, like the mandarin.
Acerola is juicy and soft.

Without the addition of sugar, the taste is sour and this demonstrates the high Vitamin C content: while oranges provide from 500 to 4,000 ppm of Vitamin C, Acerola in nature reaches from 16,000 to 172,000 ppm (parts per million, i.e. grams of active ingredient which must be diluted in a thousand liters of water).

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, due to its antioxidant action it is useful for the immune system. Improves iron absorption.
