A plant belonging to the Cactaceae family, considered sacred by the Aztecs, it arrived in Europe around 1493 upon the return of Columbus' expedition. Cladodes rich in polysaccharides (50%), opuntiamannan, pectins, minerals (20%) potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, proteins and amino acids are used.

It helps regulate the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins due to its high fiber content. It has a detoxifying and purifying effect, regulates the absorption of cholesterol and triglycerides, acts on blood viscosity and can keep blood pressure under control.

Taken before meals it helps reduce appetite, creating a sense of satiety and you eat less food; the ingested food is absorbed by the mucilages, which increase the volume and intestinal transit, favoring and facilitating the elimination of faeces.

Mucilage limits the absorption of fats and sugars, thus helping to lower cholesterol (LDL), triglycerides and blood sugar levels in the blood. The hypoglycaemic activity positively influences various metabolic problems, especially obesity and hyperlipidemia
