Plantain leaves have an emollient and soothing action on the oropharyngeal mucosa and tone of voice, promotes the functionality of the upper respiratory tract, the mucous membranes of the respiratory system and promotes the functionality of the digestive system.

Plantain is attributed with strong anti-inflammatory properties with special reference to the respiratory system. The antibacterial, antitussive and expectorant action is strong.

This action is carried out by the leaves which contain iridoid glycosides, flavonoids, mucilages, tannins, pectins, salic acid and mineral salts.

The antibacterial action is carried out thanks to eucubigenin and the presence of saponins which perform antimicrobial activity. The anti-inflammatory activity is exerted by the active ingredients aucubin and baicalein.

Plantain can also be used in case of skin rashes, eczema, itching, hives and psoriasis.
